Let’s start with configuration and dimensions: Do you need a single, double, triple or quad kennel? What other purpose do you need the kennel to serve? What are the dimensions of the area for the kennel? What is the width of the narrowest door the kennel needs to go through?
Now let’s move on to the design details and options:
Hinged door(s) are standard. For the Single Medium and Single Large kennels, choose door placement on the left or right. For Single Extra Large, we center the door unless you specify left or right. Double kennels have the door opening on the left and right, opening toward the center. Both doors can be fully opened without bumping into each other. Standard hardware for the hinged door is tasteful, simple black hardware. If you want different hardware, please let us know. Barn Doors are our most popular optional upgrade.
Hand applied stained finishes are standard. Smooth, distressed and weathered painted finishes are available in any color for an additional charge. You can send us a specific paint brand and color or choose from our options. Smooth paint gives a more contemporary look. Need help choosing? Send us pics of your décor and we’ll make suggestions.
The top of the kennel is tongue in groove Alder,trimmed in metal. The top is stained in your choice of color. Portrait frame, farmhouse, and metal art tops are available for an extra charge. The interior of the kennel is stained to match the top of the kennel.
Double kennels feature a wood tongue in groove panel between the doors, which are placed on the left and right. An open bar front is available for an additional charge. Single kennels are open bars on the front and sides but if you need more privacy, we can do wood panels instead.
Storage options include drawers, adjustable shelves within the body of the piece, fixed shelf on top of the piece, cabinet with doors, bookcases and media cubbies. For media shelves or cubbies, we grommet the cord holes to protect your cords and hide the holes from view. For desks, options include lap drawers, keyboard tray and file drawers. Drawer hardware on a hinged door kennel is tasteful, simple black hardware to match the hinges and latches. Drawer hardware on a barn door kennel is made in-house from the same materials we make our barn doors from. If you want different drawer hardware or recessed finger pulls, please let us know.
Chew guards are recommended for known chewers, dogs with anxiety issues or if you are EVER going to put a puppy in the kennel.
The back of the kennel is fully detailed and trimmed Alder wood. If depth is a concern, you can opt for a flat back (no charge) which will save 2.25” on the depth. You can reduce the kennel depth OR give the dogs that extra space.
Upgrade options for the doors include oversized doors, extra doors and barn doors. We fabricate our barn door rails in house, and they add 2” to the exterior depth of the kennel. If needed, the rails and doors can be removed to get through a doorway - all you need is a power screwdriver and a friend with steady hands. We fabricate our barn door rails in-house. The metal is dark gray but where the metal is bent and burnished, you will see lighter areas. This irregularity is part of the process and adds to the beauty and uniqueness of the piece. The barn door wheels are black.
Double kennels feature a centered, interior divider door that can be latched closed to create two separate spaces or can swing to latch flat to the back of the kennel to create one large space. If your dogs needs something different, just let us know. Have dogs of different sizes? No problem! We can offset the divider to create kennels of different sizes. We can make this a fixed wall instead of a door if you need permanent separation.
Triple and Quad kennels require some extra attention to detail. Let’s talk about your dimensions to ensure we meet your needs. Depending on the dimensions… the interior dividers may need to be fixed into place and may not operate as doors, barn doors may not be an option, and shipping surcharges may apply.
A touch up kit with some of your paint and stain is included. Industrial compressed felt self-adhesive feet are included. If you put the kennel on a hard surface, these feet will protect your floors (not needed if the kennel is going on carpet).
Need something special? Just ask! We can build double-decker kennels, corner kennels and whelping boxes. Have a special needs dog? Let us know what you need. We build elevated feeders and elevated dog beds. Need a companion piece? Just ask! We build end-tables, nightstands, kitty litter boxes, wall shelves and other fun items. Want to customize another aspect of the kennel? Just ask! We can powder coat the metal in any color or sandblast it to mimic brushed nickel. Need it on wheels? We can add industrial casters. We can vary the height of the wood panels, the spacing of the bars or virtually any aspect of the kennel. Just ask!
Once we have all the details, we email a detailed, written quote via PayPal. Take your time to go over all the details and check all the dimensions. We are happy to make any adjustments. Accept the estimate and we convert it to an invoice. Payment is due before we build your kennel and orders are non-refundable once we start the build. The build takes about 12 weeks, plus shipping time. Shipping is via freight service, with curbside delivery. We strive to provide a higher level of delivery service by using furniture delivery services but it’s not always possible. We love visitors to the workshop! Make a road trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma to pick up your kennel and save the shipping charge.
